Ethnicity is an illusion. If you are a person of the earth you shouldn’t be dictated as to which cultures you can draw ideas from. Just be into whatever you are into from whatever cultures you want. Because nobody own culture. Culture is always being learned by someone new, always being adapted. There are no restrictions. And despite what you have read on Tumblr there is nothing wrong with cultural appropriation.

Constructions aren’t illusions. Constructions like race may not be a “natural way of things” (lol what is?), but race designations specifically were created to aid white supremacy and stop the white proletariat from identifying with poor PoC and slaves. Ethnicity is also constructed to help distinguish from people of different regions, but white supremacy has linked ethnicity to race, so many opinions of a certain ethnicity are linked with overall opinions of their “race,” and the individual cultural aspects of those ethnicities are stolen, generalized, exoticized, and stripped of their meaning by the people who created race to be a means of white supremacy (you guessed it; white people). Ethnicity may be a construct, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real. You can’t just ignore history or language and their real applications in the world because people created and influenced them.

no matter what your relationship is with her now, you can never thank, praise or love her enough for what she went through.

no one owes anything to their mother because their mother chose to carry them through pregnancy— if the mother decided that, then that was their choice. that history does not cancel out if someone’s experiencing abuse at the hands of their mother. and in that case, they are not required to give an iota of love or respect to said mother, because abusers do not deserve love or respect. and shaming people because they don’t thank love or praise their mothers because of those conditions is horrible and unacceptable.

When Mayor Michael Nutter signed legislation Thursday to afford equal rights to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, he said he hoped Philadelphia would become “the most LGBT-friendly” city in the world.

One piece of that comprehnsive legislation will forever alter the restroom options in city-owned buildings.

The legislation requires that new or renovated city-owned buildings include gender-neutral bathrooms in addition to traditional men’s and women’s restrooms.

There is more to the bill than just a neutral place to relieve oneself. Nutter, city and state lawmakers and gay rights advocates said the legislation makes Philadelphia the first city in the U.S. to offer tax credits to companies that extend the same health care coverage to LGBT employees’ domestic partners and their children as they provide to heterosexual spouses and their children.“It can be an awkward and embarrassing situation” for anyone who may “feel more like a woman, but can’t use the women’s room,” said Councilman Jim Kenney, the bill’s sponsor.

Officials said the legislation also makes Philadelphia the first city to offer businesses tax credits as a way to encourage providing transgender-specific health benefits.

“My goal is for Philadelphia to be one of, if not the most, LGBT-friendly cities in the world and a leader on equality issues,” said Nutter, adding that the signing struck a personal note because his friend, the late City Councilman John Anderson, was a gay man and a mentor who inspired him 30 years ago to pursue a life of public service.

In addition to the business tax incentives, which were backed by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce as well as LGBT advocacy groups, and the gender-neutral restrooms, the legislation revises Philadelphia’s anti-discrimination law to include transgender people, extends decision-making rights to life partners on medical and other issues, and changes city forms and websites to offer options for same-sex couples and transgender people.

“Equal protection under the law means equal protection under the law,” said. “It doesn’t mean sanctioned by religion or custom or anything else.”

Kenney called the bill, which the City Council passed easily last month, “the next iteration of civil rights and freedom in the United States.”

“This is a city that is truly respecting all its citizens,” said state Rep. Brian Sims, a Philadelphia Democrat and the first openly gay candidate to be elected to the Legislature. “It is because of that respect that we are indeed a first-class city and we will continue to shine.”

Neither gay marriage nor civil unions are legal in Pennsylvania, and the state has a law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

“So I shouldn’t be surprised that the Mother’s Day Parade shooting has largely been forgotten. On Sunday, shots were fired into a crowd during a parade in the New Orleans 7th ward. Police said they saw three suspects running from the scene.

This is the largest mass shooting in the United States where the shooters were still at large after the crime was committed. Think about that for a minute. From Columbine to Virginia Tech to Fort Hill to Aurora, all the shooters were either killed or apprehended on site. But the person or people responsible for shooting 19 Americans are still free.”

One of the people who got shot was an antiviolence blogger. Somehow we aren’t seeing massive solidarity for New Orleans or the entire city going on police lockdown to find the perpetrators. Two reasons: 1) This mostly affected Black people, and we all know how much the media and the police give any fucks about Black people in New Orleans; 2) This was a gun crime, so we can’t criticize it because GUNS ARE FREEDOM!

Okay, so I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but I haven’t been on tumblr much lately. When I do post, it’s usually to reblog, though sometimes it isn’t. I don’t really fully know what’s going on with me right now, but I’m having a lot of emotional problems and a lot of trouble coping with things. My mom doesn’t regularly schedule my counseling, so it was six weeks in between my last appointment with my psychologist and the one before that. The adults at school don’t listen to me or try to throw blame on me for things I’ve resolved not to blame myself for because I KNOW they aren’t actually my fault, and it’s unhealthy to do so and my psychologist confirms this. She says that the worst thing for me is no matter how we work on things, I still have to go home to be in my home. I cry or almost cry every day of school. I always feel immense pressure in my head, and often my chest too know. I can be overcome with random bouts of very strong sadness, and the only way to release the pressure in my chest that’s weighting me down is to cry. It doesn’t really make me feel much better, but I feel like I have to do it to survive. My grades and focus have slipped immensely. Essentially, I’m a mess trying to hold onto scraps of semblance, and life is very hard for me right now. I don’t worry that I’m suicidal or anything, but I also often wish I could disappear or just turn into nothing. Even as I’m writing this, I have a headache. Sometimes they get so bad that I have to stop what I’m doing and wait for the throbbing or pressure, to be more accurate, to subside, but I’ve gotten used to it after a few months. I feel like I’m trapped in a perpetual cycle of partially self-inflicted destruction, and I worry about my life constantly. When I get home, I have very little energy to do really anything, and I’m sleeping much more, well not really, rather, I HAVE to sleep much more than I used to. Meaning, now if I get six hours of sleep, I’ll be exhausted, and my body thinks I need twelve hours the next day. If I don’t sleep my headaches intensify, making it harder for me to focus than it already is. Anyway, I wish that I could be more coherent and more here as I once was, but these are the reasons for why my activity on tumblr has been the way it has.

aww, it’s okay honey muffin, it happens to me all the time. seeing your favorite things constantly get whitewashed will do that to you. now i really want to make a graphic of live-action Howl’s Moving castle to match the animated version!

I do feel really bad about it though. Lately, I’ve been feeling like a lot of things I’m doing are wrong or confused if they’re right, and yeah, it makes me feel bad that I didn’t actually look into it before replying.
